The food here is better than most hibachi places. They try really hard to give a Japanese feel, but the waitresses with bathrobes make them look like housewives instead of women in kimonos. If you want to order takeout, you might as well drive there and wait on your order because they very seldom answer the phone. All that said, the prices are really decent, the sushi quality is great, and the hibachi is both tasty and filling. Food 9/10 Service 4/10 Overall 6/10

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!!!! I went on down to Memphis, TN last week for a business trip, and our hotel was located in Olive Branch, MS so we decided to eat local one night and it was my choice because it was my birthday. I was in the mood for some sushi and figured it would be hard finding a decent place down south, just because all I had been hearing the whole week was about this BBQ. Boy, was I wrong!! When we walked through the door we were greeted by the hosts who were decked out in Japanese Komonos. It was a VERY nice touch! We were asked if we prefer regular dining or the hibachi grill, we chose the regular dining of course. After about a good 15 min wait (we were the only ones in the dining area), our server came over (in her Komono getup) and asked for our drink orders. We were given plenty of time to look over the sushi menu and also put in our order. Surprisingly, our food came around pretty quick and we dug in! My co-worker and I decided to share 2 rolls of the Spicy Tuna and Phoenix Roll. OMG...the sushi was just simply amazing...I have been to a few sushi places around Chicago, and those were never disappointing, but this was just...heaven. The Spicy Tuna was really good, but it lacked it's spiciness..and the Phoenix roll was super tasty with a bit of a bite, that I love! My boss and other co-worker wound up getting several peices of sashimi, a Crab roll with what looked to be like crab salad poured ontop of the it and a Valcano roll. My co-worker and I both snagged a peice of the Valcano roll after my boss and other co-worker tapped out. I should have ordered the Valcano roll!! It was great! I'm not really sure if they have an Osaka up here in Chicago, but I did a search and it wasn't the same restaurant. BLAST! I would never stop going! Oh, well, if you ever visit Memphis, or Olive Branch, MS I would definetely give this place a try if your looking for GREAT sushi!! Chow-

I've eaten at many sushi restaurants all across the country. This one probably has the most comprehensive selection of sushi rolls I've ever seen. It's almost over the top. I ate at the sushi bar but could have sat at a table or at a hibachi. I liked the options. I like how they added in a southern flair by putting crawfish and red snapper in some of the rolls. Also, the half-roll option is a great way to try a bunch of different rolls without breaking the bank. The sushi chefs were good but the wait staff seemed young and inexperienced. Food came pretty quickly. Great price for the quality of food. I would recommend this place and I would go back for the food. I might even consider takeout.

I love this place! There are other Osaka restaurants in Memphis but I would rather travel to go to this one. It just tastes better here. This place means a lot to me for more than just the food...a lot of memories there. But I will continue to be a customer.

Given the area, Osaka has an amazing assortment of sushi, unique and creative rolls .. They chefs touch is there . And the fish was, for the most part, fresh.. The one big downside here is.. There is way too much on their menu.. its exhausting.. And combined the samurai like hibachi chefs twirling knives, eggs, and throwing flame.. Its a bit much and can make for a stressful environment. If you are looking for a fun spot for a big group, this is perfect.. But, if fancy is your fancy.. Probably not.. Pros: Great varied and extensive menu Good fresh sushi and Japanese beer Entertaining venue for 5 to 15 Cons: Congested Long (exhausting) menu Staff are scattered (unprofessional)

We lived in Cordova TN for about 4 years and had Osaka at least 3 times a month. Always good, never had a bad dish at Osaka. The lunch special sushi was our favorite, lots to pick from at such a great price. Anchorage, spicy crawfish, dynamite Philadelphia roll....all good! Both the house salad and seaweed salad are great. House salad dressing is some of the best I've had. We've yet to find a place we like as much as Osaka since moving to Grapevine. We miss and loved this place!

This place has hit rock bottom as far as service is concerned. I regretfully will not be giving them another chance after tonight. I refuse to spend another dime at a place that cannot ensure basic restaurant skills. If you order food at the same time, it should arrive at the same time. If it doesn't, realize it and make accommodations accordingly. If you make a mistake, be honest, admit it, and try to make it right. Don't blame the kitchen. It sucks. If you screw the majority of someone's meal up, make some sort of effort to get the check in a decent amount of time. If, when, the agitated customer is standing in front of the gallery of servers (6 people tonight) & (3-7 people always standing on the south side of the bar), it should not take the guest to wave his arms to get attention. Literally, after waving my arms in front of all of the servers one says, "do you need something"? I said, YES, a box! I'm done with this place. Have been. Charity has been dragging me here. Done with that mess, even the lovely bride won't sway me know.

This used too great place to dine. You can always judge the quality of a restaurant by the cleanliness of there restrooms.

I had Osaka as 4-5 stars, for their dine in service has been spot on, their food is good, and even the hibachi area (and I hate "clangy clang clang" places) has been above par. The Dark Side of Osaka is their carry out customer LACK OF SERVICE. Please get these kids to put away their toys and take care of the people at the bar and counters. When your employees are more preoccupied with Trivia Crack, messaging buddies, Instagram, or whatever their smartphones are spewing out, it's time to switch allegiances to one of the other places in the OB.

I love all the Osaka restaurants. This was my first time here and it didn't disappoint. People who post negative reviews about Osaka are not worthy of Osaka. Try the blazzin roll, or the Cordova. They're my favorite

This is the 4th time I've come here for lunch, and I have yet to get out in under an hour each time. As of this writing, I've been sitting here 35 minutes and haven't seen my food. The sushi menu is extensive. The hibachi is great. The food always tastes great. When I'm at work and craving this type of cuisine, this is my first option. However, as noted, don't go unless you have time to spare.

Service is terrible. They are impossible to get on the phone. Their hours posted on line are incorrect, they have no hours posted on the door. Food is good and I've enjoyed their sushi but it doesn't overcome all of the other negatives.

Appetizers were awesome. Service (one veteran and another in training) started out fine but then gradually sucked as it neared the end of the night. The server in training seemed to not give a damn. Everyone was served their sushi before me, so I was last to eat. COME ON. And, my sushi came out staggered...a roll here, a roll there, my salmon sashimi, and then another specialty sashimi dish. This is where I was totally disgusted: it was clear the sushi chefs stopped giving a shit and just wanted to get me the dish. The salmon sashimi was in HUGE chunks and were still slightly frozen....um, whatever happened to cool, buttery, melt in your mouth pieces. The fish seriously looked like a piece of just thawed salmon from the grocery store, with like the skin cut off....still had brownish stuff on it. The specialty item was tuna with raw scallop on top. Again, the raw scallop was FROZEN! I sent it back. And where were the garlic chips?? I just saw garlic powder or pepper on it. Prices were very reasonable.

Everything was terrible from the food, to the service, to the management. We had 2 waiters -someone training and another veteran server. With 2 servers you would have thought our dining experience would have been exceptional, but that was FAR from the case. *The salads and soups were forgotten about, and came to the table right before the meal came out. *They forgot to give us silverware. *My order was wrong after repeating 4 times to the waiters. *The eel sauce taste like it had been sitting in an old shoe. *The waiter split sauce all down my husband's shirt and arm ( not sure if the shirt is salvageable now) My sushi plus the eel sauce was just not good, to say the least. When I tried to tell them that my food wasn't good, I got asked 3 different times why because they wanted to "pinpoint" the problem. Time and Time again, I politely told them that the eel sauce tasted bad, my original order was incorrect and whatever they brought me the 2nd time around just didn't taste right. So I didn't eat it. I maybe had 4 bites of my entire plate and did not feel comfortable eating the rest. Now the manager comes over. She is now asking me the same question I have repeated 3 times...this makes number 4. I turned to my husband and I said " I am tired of talking about this" If we hadn't been with another couple we would have just left. And let me say, she is not asking in a polite way, she is being argumentative. She goes on to tell me, she sold 10 of the same rolls today and had no complaints, and that the eel sauce was made yesterday. She keeps on debating the subject. What is there to debate?! I didn't like the food, it was gross, I didn't eat it...that's it!! What about the customer is always right concept?! So instead of comping the meal or apologizing, she is trying to argue with me. Also please keep in mind, I am not a complainer. However I do know what customer service is and this place is seriously lacking it. I didn't even bring up all the incidents that happened (that I mentioned above) yet. So when she would not let up, we finally told her the list of issues mentioned above that we weren't even complaining about to begin with. We were actually trying not be to rude about it, but she was treating us like we were just trying to get a free meal. If I wanted a free meal...I would have eaten my sushi. All in all, the rudeness and ignorance of the staff here and especially management was shocking. I have eaten here before and is was pretty good. But who ever they have running the place now is awful!! I feel sorry for the owner. Now I am wondering, who is going to pay for my husbands ruined shirt? You think we even got an apology from the manager on that....absolutely not!

Been going here since they open, never had a bad experience. Love the service as well as the food. Had my daughter grad dinner there with over 40 in the group. They were able to accomodate and get everything going.

Ok this was the worst meal I have had in olive branch in years. My wife ordered the Katsu chicken with cheese and it was worse than a cheap Denny's meal. We sent it back but they would not remove it from the bill. My meal was like a bowl of barf. We will never return. Go to Kyoto it's much better.

The food is definitely a 5 star while the service NEEDS IMPORVEMENT. For years I have been a loyal patron & continuously Osaka fails to deliver efficient service. Certain employees I'm POSITIVE are racist, but they need to put that aside to "serve" as they are there to!

We just ate at Osaka. Have not been before. The menus are black with red writing and very difficult to read. We were ordering the hibachi. Found the early bird special which was $14 and we were too late for. Under that was hibachi with regular prices for $16 so we pointed to that when we ordered. When we received our bill it was $24 per person without tax!! When we called the manager over she told us we we ordered the wrong thing and after 6pm it was $24. When I explained that we pointed to our order that showed $16 and that the waitress should've told us we could no longer order from that menu. However she still refused to honor the price and said she didn't know whether to take our word or the servers. (Clearly has no concept of customer being right) It appears from the set up of their menu they are trying to mislead customers. And what terrible customer service! It was the servers fault for not notifying us when she saw we were ordering off the wrong menu. They purposefully do this to cheat people. Who in the world would pay $25 for a meal in Olive Branch when you could have a fancy dinner for that at a nice restaurant in Memphis! We will never be back and I'll forever consider this place cheaters and thieves. Do yourself a favor if you want hibachi - go to Kyoto down the road. They have reasonable prices and great food.

This is my first food review. This is the first time I have been unhappy with a resteraunt. The manager was our waitress, we have had her before and she doesn't like to check in and she is really quick when she comes by, too quick to even say anything. We got our appetizer the same time we got our sushi, she ran off too quickly I couldn't even ask for sauce. So at this point, since she doesn't like to come back to the table at all, i tried to asked another waitress if she could get me some eel sauce but she kept walking and blew me off. I got up and went behind the sushi bar and got my sauce my self. And then when our waitress finally came around we told her that one of our rolls were wrong and she argued saying that it was right... i know the difference between crunchy crab and a California roll. We spent $60 and this is the first time that my boyfriend and I have not tipped, and we are very generous tippers. We will be going to a different Osaka next time.

I give Osaka an extra star for the $1.75 half lunch rolls. The service, while friendly, is often very very slow. The sushi itself is average. The bento boxes are also nicely priced and the Yakisoba is fantastic. Just make sure to give yourself time!

Best sushi in the area! The whole menu is excellent Good food, good people, very clean. Two tumbs up!

Some of the freshest sushi I've had outside of Japan - delicious!! And the menu prices were reasonable - under $30 per person for plenty of sushi to more than fill us up plus 4 beers - what more could you ask for!

We went there for lunch and luckily we were not in a hurry. There were two of us and we only ordered sushi but it took over an hour and fifteen minutes. The food was good, but this is not an option if you need to get back to work. We won't be back for lunch.

Osaka is the first place I ever tried sushi and now I love it! Their sushi is better than other restaurants I've been to. I usually go for lunch and half an order of sushi is $1.75, so it doesn't hurt my pocket. The hibachi is also good, but my favorite is their rice it's delicious. Also, I never thought I'd like raw fish but the tuna tataki is the best, kinda pricey though for $9 since it's kinda small. They have some desserts my favorite has to be the tempura cheesecake with mango ice cream, if you even have room for more food it's a must have. The service is great, I've never had to wait for a table even if I was with 6 people and the food is ready fast.

The menu offers combination platters of sushi, sashimi, etc, but they have no description of what is actually being offered with each. The waitress did not know either, so instead she offered me her illegible notes written down on her pad. I finally selected sashimi and found it inedible. It had been previously frozen (as I'm sure is not uncommon in landlocked states) and sat in a soggy mush on the plate actually leaking fluid. The taste was foul, strongly fishy and "off," and I could not finish even one bite. The waitress cared not at all and did not apologize - rather, I apologized several times, feeling bad for sending it back - and removed all my silverware with the dish. I had to flag down another waitress about 10 minutes later in order to finish the other dish I ordered, the combination salad, a concoction of seaweed, octopus, and jellyfish. It would have been great, but the tiny slivers of each of these items were insubstantial and tasteless under a deluge of syrupy sweet sauce. It was more of a combination soup than a salad, and left me feeling queasy after a few bites. I will say that everyone else in my party had the hibachi, and seemed to like it just fine. I was hungry and sampled some of my boyfriend's hibachi vegetables and rice, and found it perfectly tasty. I declined to replace my order due to the general nastiness of the meal. I'm willing to try Osaka again, but not until every other restaurant has been given a fair shot. This was a disappointing experience.

We have always enjoyed Osaka. The sushi is always fresh and very good. The service gets no complaints. The only negative is the prices seem to have risen. We used to eat there quite a bit but the last time the bill was a bit of a shock for the three of us (and no liquor).

I really have to wonder why some places get such high marks for mediocre food and service. This is such a place. My girlfriend had sushi here once and insisted that their sushi was "to die" for. So we packed our empty stomachs and drove an hour from Oxford to eat at the heavenly-sushi-palace-of-her-dreams. The restaurant was very nice on the inside, beautiful wall decorations adorn the walls everywhere and as a hibachi-grill type restaurant, it sure has all the pizazz. We sat down at the hibachi-grill side to sample both sides of the menu (sushi and hibachi) Well, apparently this time around, the heavenly-sushi-palace-of-her-dreams managed to disappoint and turned out to be the hellish-sushi-place-of-our-nightmares, the sushi wasn't up to snuff with other sushi restaurants I've been through. The rice was packed so loosely that the sushi pieces crumbled apart as I picked them up with my chopsticks. May be we'll have better luck with the hibachi grill menu and the chef. Our chef was apparently not too happy at our table, the waitress managed to mess up the orders of the patrons so he was making mistakes everywhere. The customers were irritated as they had to repeatedly tell him who had what and I felt that he must be thinking "Here goes my tip..." It was funny to watch his two-faced expressions (one for the customers and one for the waitress) all within plain view and a minute of each other. And that was the only thing funny at our table. At our table the show was sub-par and the fun was nonexistence and I thought the whole purpose of eating at a hibachi grill was fun and show??? Our chef did manage to have a better time at the next table where he didn't mess up his customers' orders... So much so that my girlfriend even questioned if that was the same chef that cooked at our table. I'm sure at this point, you'd want to know how was the hibachi food? well, like they say "if you been in one, you've been in them all" - nothing special or out-of-the-ordinary. Although I do have to wonder why some people get more fried-rice than others. I'd like the chef to break out that scale before distributing my portions next time... Three-stars at best from me for this place.

  • Robert S.

We ate on the grill side and also ordered sushi. The sushi was good and fresh. The grill side food was good as well, but nothing special. The chef that cooked our food did a good job with the food, but maybe the worse show I've seen. Guy looked like he was going through the motions and waiting for his shift to be over. One of the thing that annoys me is a nasty menu. Our entire party was given menus that looked like a dog chewed on them. Also, the pens had spoons taped to them. My bill was $85....you can afford to lose a pen or two...it looks cheap Osaka! Overall....good food, but not worth the money.

I was surprised to find a place like this in Olive Branch but it was pretty good stuff. We tried a whole bunch of items on the menu as we had a big group. from hibachi, to udon noodles to sushi. Everyone was happy and liked what they ordered. I even asked for them to make me a special roll with tempura shrimp, mango, and cream cheese and they did it perfect except for some reason they threw in avocado and I really hate avocado man but I dealt with it cause I wasn't about to wait again while everyone ate. good food.

The food here varied tonight. The appetizer of pork spring rolls tasted good and bad at the same time. How? Well, the first bite of each roll tasted like there was some freezer burn - weird. The filling however was nice and the spicy sweet sauce was good. The sushi rolls were decent - got the sunrise roll and the tornado rolls. However, I was taken aback by have cheddar cheese sprinkle and soft on the top. The menu said baked, but nothing about cheese. The filling on both orders was lovely and the rolls were tight, but cheese? My biggest problem was with the drinks. I ordered a glass of water and a strawberry daiquiri. Let me tell you, the bartender was either not trained or just an idiot. What I got was a fat, wine glass with ice and some red, syrupy concoction that tasted nothing like strawberry and the alcohol did not taste like rum. I'd have sent it back with my waitress. bless her heart, she was MIA for most of my visit. The water tasted like maybe the glass was not rinsed properly - it was a plastic glass so maybe it was old. One thing I noticed were several servers and other staff congregating near the hostess section or bar area - right at the entrance and right near my seat. Yet I could not get a drink refill or ask for a different glass.. When I mentioned the daiquiri I was met with a shrug. If you charge almost nine dollars for a drink, make it right or comp it. I may go back again for the sushi, but will skip the bar drinks. Beware - even though this is a sushi/hibachi restaurant, there were a large number of children here and this was around 7pm on a Saturday night...and not the first time we'd dealt with kiddies here.

Service was great. I ordered the steak and lobster. Lobster was excellent, steak was average, and the vegetables were great! The two sushi rolls that we ordered were decent. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely be coming back.

Went for the first time with a good friend on a "girl's day out" decided on the Hibachi Grill and loved it. The food was fresh and delicious and the hibachi chef was very entertaining. My only regret is that they close between lunch and supper so we had to leave, it would have been 5 stars if they hadn't closed so we could have remained to enjoy a glass of wine, laughter and some sushi.

    (4)
  • E W.

The reason for the two stars is the exceptionally poor service and management. The food is actually quite good. I have eaten at this restaurant many, many times over the time it's been open. It started out great, but the service has gotten really poor. Last time I was there, I had finished my dinner before my husband even got his. The manager had the nerve to blame it on us, saying their kitchen couldn't possibly be expected to coordinate meals to be sent out to the table together. Whatever. The waiter didn't bring us silverware or soy sauce cups for our sushi and actually suggested we just get up and take things off other tables if we needed anything. While the food is good, the shockingly bad service and rude, insulting management ruins this place. I sure hope they hire some good management to keep it open. It will surely go downhill if they do not. Very sad considering we have enjoyed this place for a long time until now.

I love Osaka! The house salad roll is my favorite! We have eaten there many times both at the Hibachi grill and just for sushi. We have also gotten many take out orders. We have always been pleased and never had any problems with taste, quality or accuracy.

Terrible service. Waited 10 mins with Few patrons just to get a drink order. Waited 45 mins to get 1 roll at lunch. I'd love to give a review of the food but I left after 1 hour. This place is full of teenage servers more interested In their friends and texting than actual service. Other Osakas in Cordova and collierville have been great though.

The service is great at Osaka, I eat here about once a week and am always pleased with the service and food. The only reason why I'm not rating 5 stars is because of the experience I had on my latest visit. I ordered my regular order of chicken fried rice and a tornado roll, an order I have placed countless times before. I received my food and the rice was fantastic as usual, but as soon as I ate a piece of the tornado roll I noticed something was different. The tornado roll consists of smoked salmon, alvacado, cream cheese, wrapped in the usual seaweed and rice, dipped in batter and deep fried, drizzled with, I believe eel sauce. All together a fantastic roll. I notice that on this night instead of cream cheese, they used mozzarella. This didn't by any means make the roll inedible, but it certainly made the taste about half as desirable as the normal, certainly not a roll I would ever order knowing it was made with mozzarella. I told my waitress and she returned the roll to the kitchen / sushi chefs, and returned saying that the restaurant had run out of cream cheese. She did offer to take the roll off the bill but was also going to remove it from the table. At first, I couldn't understand how a main staple ingredient such as cream cheese could ever be run out of at a place that sells sushi, being that it is in so many of the rolls they serve, but I can understand how crazy things can happen sometimes. What I wasn't satisfied with was the fact that I wasn't told shortly after I placed my order that they were out of cream cheese. If I had been told I would have chosen a different roll could eat my roll with my fried rice instead of waiting another 15 minutes. Furthermore, now I fell I will have to ask my waitress now if they have cream cheese before I place my order in the future. Even so, I will still be returning to Osaka and I will be asking about the cream cheese every time. I'll be known as the cream cheese guy... and I'm OK with that... ;)

The restaurant is broken up into two sections: one for the regular restaurant and one for the Hibachi grill. I ate at the Hibachi grill, and I loved it! The chef was incredibly skilled, both with his cooking as well as with his knife flipping. Every trick I've ever seen a Japanese chef perform was done here. The food was also fantastic. I agreed to teriyaki sauce, but unless you're really big into teriyaki sauce, skip it. I briefly glanced over the rest of the movie, and it appeared that they had a great selection of sushi. I'd definitely come back to check it out. I also really enjoyed the wall decorations. There were these intricate 3-D pictures made from shells and beads.

Amazing place. I recommend this place to anyone who loves good sushi. Been here 8 times, the food is always excellent, the service is great and the price-cheap in relation to the quality."

A friend of mine is addicted to one of the rolls here so I drove down to Olive Branch to give it a try. The restaurant is very nice. It has a full bar, a sushi- regular restaurant section, and a hibachi section. I tried the Cordova roll and the Bamboo roll and both were great. Service was very quick. The rolls are a little looser/bigger than the ones at sekisui but the really nice thing is that you can order half rolls (4 pieces). For the first time ever, my sushi bill was under $15!!! The rolls were great tasting and I'd definitely recommend it. I think sushi under $20 is worth the drive!!
